looking for good old southern boiled peanuts, this is not the right place – try Highway 98 just a little west of Mobile – great roadside market! But if you’re a Woody Woodpecker, here’s the spot! A super duper peanut feeder especially designed for Woody and friends. We’ve always enjoyed watching woodpeckers. They’re colorful and interesting. If you have some old pine trees you probably have some old woodpeckers (maybe some young ones too). They chow down pine beetles! But peanuts work well! We found a peanut bird feeder on line that looked like it would fit the bill – inexpensive and holds a pound of peanuts. A pound of peanuts should fill a few woodpecker bellies! Get one of these on order, buy a couple pounds of peanuts; and you’ll have some Woody’s eating in your backyard too!
What kind of question is that? I’d never heard of nesting tables; but there is such a thing! Actually when I saw them, I thought they were neat patio furniture. There’s three tables and the two smaller ones can slide right under the biggest one. That means you can use all three at once; or, if you need a little extra space, you can put two of the tables up for the day. That’s a handy little advantage! The ones I saw were small triangular and larger rectangular. Both were pretty, but I liked the little triangles best! A set of these would look good on the patio or deck. Don’t forget that they would also go in a nice sunroom! So next time someone asks me if my patio tables nest, I can tell them “YES.”
Now that the weather is gradually improving, I am starting to think ahead to the summertime when my family will be spending a great deal of their time outside enjoying the great weather. I have been trying to find different items that I can use in my yard to make it much more comfortable. I would like to make the yard a place where my family will enjoy hanging out.
I have started to think about the possibility of adding some kind of a fire pit to my backyard to make it so that my family could roast marshmallows or just enjoy the blaze of the fire. It would be especially nice for cool evenings where a fire could make it easier to stay outside for longer. I would really love to have some kind of a fire pit in the backyard.
To ensure that my family can enjoy a fire pit this summer, I have started looking at a lot of different outdoor firepits that are available online. I have found a lot of great ones that would be perfect for a small fire. I hope to order one soon so that I can get one set up in my backyard before summer weather is here.
When we bought our LP firepit it came with reddish brown lava rocks. The salesman who helped us told us about replacing the lava rocks with a cut glass kit. This would eliminate the black deposits that gathered on the lava rocks and eventually crumbled off to the bottom of the pit. It would also prevent the firebowl from losing its attractive flame. We took his advice and are thankful we did. The glass kit stays clean and has a super shimmering glow when it get’s hot – makes the pit so much more inviting and warm. When my wife bought our glass kit it cost a small fortune; but you can get one today for just a few bucks. Found some on line that are a super deal. They came in four different colors – blue, black, white, and bronze.
With all the political jargon and news media hype over the 2016 presidential election, we hear over and over again that “politics ain’t bean bag” and that’s bad English. Give it a rest. Let’s play cornhole, one of the great backyard games! We’re not throwing bean bags but corn bags are better. Search “cornhole rules” if you want the official rules of the game, and you can start your own backyard cornhole tournament. You can even charge an entry fee and give prizes to the winning teams. But most folks just get the family and a few friends together and toss the corn bags! If your good you’ll put them in the cornhole! It’s a little like horseshoes; close does count! My wife and kids love this easy to play and fun to play game. Try it – guarantee you will like it too!!
That’s right! Time to fire up the grill and get a tender, tasty Boston Butt for dinner. You’ll have to start early though – give yourself about nine hours of cooking time. Pick your favorite wood chips and soak them for an hour. Start with some mustard sauce and your favorite rub – coat the butt and let it sit a little while. Then get the chips in the grill and get the fire going at about 350F. Place the butt on a rack in the indirect heat area and let it cook fat side down for about two hours. Then cut the heat back to about 250F. Wrap the butt in foil and put it back on the rack in the indirect heat area and let it cook fat side up for another six to eight hours. Check the butt – if the meat is juicy, brown, and falls off the bone – you’re ready to eat!!
One of what? Something to add color and class to your backyard; that’s what an arbor can do! They are super garden accessories. We had one when we lived in Atlanta. We planted Mandevilla on both sides and watched the vines climb and fill out the entire arbor with flowers; that was neat! An arbor is the perfect accent if you have a walkway from the patio to the backyard; it provides an attractive entranceway. There are so many different types of arbors, and each one has a little history to it so you can do a little research before you buy. Any flowering vine will climb up the sides and you will have an arch of color to walk through and admire. A hidden benefit of the arbor is its low maintenance. We found one that has a matching bench and a pair of matching trellises-take a look.
No we’re not talking about empty bottles or aluminum cans. We are talking about bird feeders. Yes! You can now feed your feathered friends out of a recycled bird feeder – compliments of Birds Choice. Best of all this is a big bird feeder; it holds four quarts of food and has two suet cages. You know how long it will be before you have to refill this feeder – at least a week or more (unless you have some really piggy doves hanging around). The feeder is made from recycled plastic jugs and looks great. Find a tree that needs some decoration and put this feeder on a sturdy limb. Then sit back and watch the birds; you’ll have more than you can count!!
Ran across a web site that had the original soft style TRC Recreation’s pool float. This is the one that put TRC on the top of the list for pool floats. If you have some pool floats that you have to blow up (and blow up-and blow up-and blow up), that have little metal frames around your sitting area, or sit so low in the water you stay wet all the time; now’s your time to upgrade to the one that broke the mold and put TRC in the center of the map. TRC has so many great recliners, lounges, kids’ floats, toys, & accessories that it’s difficult to pick the right one for you; but you could not go wrong with the one that started it all! Take a look!
That’s right! We found a classy bench & coffee table that would look great in any backyard! Find a cool, shady spot and set this duo there! It’s perfect for a lunch & lounge with a club sandwich and a martini. Take that back – I don’t drink martinis – make that a club sandwich and a Fat Tire beer. You can sit in the calm and watch the swallow tail hawks sail across your sky! If you’ve never seen a swallow tail hawk, they are breathtaking in flight!! If they don’t live where you do, go on line and check them out – it’s worth the look! They are not quite as majestic as the frigate bird but they are every bit as beautiful. Enough, back to the sitting apparatus. The Hennell bench and coffee table will make your day – day after day, after day!
