My wife has had all kinds of pool floats – most last a year or two – most are used every now and then – and most end up in the trash. There are all kinds of reasons – uncomfortable, can’t get on it, sits too low in the water, too hard to blow up, leaks, little metal frames rub elbows, take up too much room to store in the winter, and on and on. But looky-here (I know that’s not correct English – but looky-here is the thing to do)!! Found a really thick, comfortable float that looks good, rolls up to store, and sits so high in the water you need to splash to get wet (unless you are a NFL lineman – they probably will get a little wet). Got to get my wife one of these.
Really like kids playsets. They keep the kids busy with healthy exercise – and most important, the kids have fun!!! Some backyards are small and the playset needs a compact footprint. But some backyards are BIG and they need a BIG playset. Have seen some super nifty playsets (can we say “super nifty” or is that an exaggeration?) – anyway there are some super nifty BIG playsets out there. They have lots of slides, lots of swings, rock climbing walls, rope ladders, sandboxes, lunch tables, clatter bridges, play platforms, and all kinds of little bells and whistles – tic-tac-toe games, telescopes, and steering wheels. Keep your children busy, healthy, and smiling with one of these BIG playsets. Spring is almost here so now is the time to get one!!
Is Kool a word?? No it’s a cigarette. But there are some really “cool” wood patio furniture sets out there. Saw one the other day – really classy – and it won’t break your budget. Not sure what eco-friendly harvested Eucalyptus grandis is but it looks good!!! I thought koala bears ate eucalyptus!! Guess they make neat looking furniture out of the eucalyptus tree too; I didn’t know that. If your looking for a patio furniture set that blends in with the yard – this is it. Not only does the dining set look “cool” but there are matching end tables, benches, and serving carts that will really complete the look. There are even different style chairs that all match the table. I’m a big WOOD fan so this is hog heaven for me! Take a look and see if “wood works for you.”
We have a small propane firepit. It’s neat – my wife spent the bucks and got the cut glass bowl filler so it looks great at night. We enjoy sitting around it on the pool deck. Seen the big firepits – guess they are called firetables? They are really impressive. They have big mantels so you can set drinks and plates and stuff on them. You can sit six or more people around them! One of our friends has one and it is a plus. Most of them are not cheap (I guess that’s inexpensive!) but not sure they are not worth it. Seen some of the top end ones on websites and they are really classy. Tile and granite mantels with really cool side panels – I am impressed. Going to save us some bucks and get one.
I didn’t know anything. Never saw a goldfinch – don’t know why because they live where I grew up. The goldfinch is the state bird of Iowa and I grew up just a little south of there in Missouri. We had lots of house finches with their little red head markings – but no goldfinches – just don’t know why. Understand the adult males are quite colorful in spring and early summer. Pictures of the males show they have bright yellow feathers with black and white markings. Heard that they like orchards and backyards. Since they winter down here in Florida; thought maybe we could entice some into the backyard with a finch feeder. That’s when I found out something interesting about these little birds. Goldfinches will feed upside-down but regular house finches will not. Time to get an upside-down bird feeder!
When we went to Cancun a few years back we found that beach volleyball was the game of choice for the tourists. Young, old, fat, skinny, tanned, pale, male, female – they were all there digging and slamming their way to victory and defeat. What was neat was that no one lost – even if you did not score more points than the other team – you still won!! It was great exercise and super fun. You might not have a beach in your backyard but volleyball is still a great way to spend an afternoon and have a good time. A volleyball game set is inexpensive, easy to put up and take down, and just a general good investment in family fun. Try it – the kids will love it, friends will play it, and you will be glad you thought of it!!
Propane grills have taken off and many households have replaced their charcoal grills in their backyards. But charcoal grills are not dead – in fact they are still the favorite of true grillers! Do you really get better flavor with the charcoal grill? Do the wood chips added to the charcoal make for better tasting meats? Charcoal grill enthusiasts will tell you with no uncertainty – YES! Do you have to clean up the ashes? Are the propane grills more convenient? Charcoal grill folks will tell you – yes but cleaning up a few ashes is worth the taste and by the way you don’t have to lug around that heavy propane bottle. For flavor and tradition – CHARCOAL GRILLS RULE!!!!
If so, try an arbor. Pick a spot where you walk. These are great eye catchers and with just a little work you can have an absolutely gorgeous addition to your homestead. When we lived in Atlanta we put one in the backyard and planted a mandevilla on each side. Within a month the vines started climbing up the arbor and blooming. By early summer the arbor was covered with mandevilla flowers and we had just a great looking entranceway to the yard. If you don’t like mandevilla try an everblooming honeysuckle they are slow growing and manageable with flowers from June to September or pick any flowering vine that suits you taste buds. End result is you get a beautiful arbor and a low maintenance high end touch of class that you can’t help but love.
Don’t wait until warm weather gets here and the pool float prices go up, up, up!! Now is the time to get new pool floats. Get one for you, get one for your spouse, get one for each of the kids!!! Don’t forget to get the kids a pool game too!!! Right now the floats are at the bottom of the price chain but that will not last for long!! And don’t get the blow up kind – they are way too much trouble!! Found a couple cute floats for Mom & Dad and a great one for the kids plus a kids’ pool game or two – and the price is right!! These floats don’t need a pump and they don’t need a good set of lungs to blow them up. These floats float right out of the box – and save the box so you can use it for storage during the cold months. Get summer floats today!!!
Went by Walmart today – spring is around the corner – they are putting out the plants in the garden center. You know what that means!! The kids can feel it too – they are ready for some warm weather and some warm weather fun!! Don’t disappoint them! Get them a playset – swings, slides, rock walls to climb, clatter bridge, sandbox, lunch table, telescope, tic-tac-toe, and more!! Too many hours in front of the TV and too many hours with the hand held computer games – yuk!! Get outside and run, climb, swing, and slide!! Every one of our little folks need some exercise and some fun!! If you order one now it will be up for Easter Sunday – can’t think of a better surprise!! Don’t put it off – DO IT NOW!!!!!
